4 YEARBOOK 16/17 www.TENNISONTARIO.com CHAMPIONS MILOS RAONIC 2016 saw Milos rise to #3 in the ATP rankings (behind Djokovic and Murray) and reach his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, despite missing events through injury or being forced to withdraw because of cramping. Milos started the year by beating Roger Federer to win the Brisbane International. He then went on to become the first Canadian man to reach a Grand Slam singles semi-final at the Australian Open, where he lost to Andy Murray. After a pause due to injury, Milos reached the finals of the Indian Wells Masters, but lost to Novak Djokovic. Milos reached his first grass court final at the Queen's Club Championships in June, losing to Murray. Then at Wimbledon he reached the final (another Canadian first), beating Roger Federer in the semis, but again falling to Murray in the final despite delivering the fastest serve of the championships (247 km/h). At the ATP World Tour Finals Milos was able to qualify for the semi-finals, despite his loss to Djokovic in round robin play. The semi-final match against Murray was the longest in World Tour Finals history (3 hours and 38 minutes) and was considered to be possibly the most exciting and finest match of the year. Milos would win the first set 7-5 and then lose two tight tie-breaker sets and the match. This performance elevated his ATP world ranking to #3. ACES PHOTOS BY Canadian Press
