ABOUT The Exchange ® challenges participants to work together within an environment of complex data, ambiguity and time pressure. Each participant is a member of a team that earns points by trading Combos. The Combos are formed by assembling colored medallions into predefi ned groupings. The Combos have an initial value as well as emerging values and liabilities. The assignment is to collect as many points as possible by trading Combos over four trading sessions. To succeed participants must engage in critical thinking, work e• ectively with their colleagues, mine available data, recognize emerging trends, maintain fl exibility and act decisively. For years DLI's experiential learning activities have been used by sophisticated facilitators to create situations where participants can become better leaders and The Exchange is the next step in this direction. OUTCOMES • Creates awareness of team's biases toward reactive versus innovative change • Reveals a group's ability to work e• ectively in a dynamic and evolving environment • Highlights the need for e„ cient and e• ective decision-making processes • Examines the impact of risk and uncertainty on strategy and execution The Exchange ® Critical Thinking Positive Results FACILITATION TOOLS Included in your certifi cation is a facilitator guide, an online module and other facilitator resources you will need to run the simulation. This short exercise compares the quality of decisions reached by consensus and those made individually. It also teaches participants how to work more e• ectively as teams while using the expertise of individual team members. In the business case, a board of directors calls for a detailed outline of critical steps to be taken to ensure a successful acquisition. Each participant decides individually on the order in which these steps should be carried out. The participants then meet as a group to agree on the order they will present to the board. The result reached by consensus is then compared to an expert solution. Reaching this collective decision engages participants in group dynamics and provides an opportunity for individuals to exercise their infl uencing skills. The Acquisition ® Infl uencing Group Decisions OUTCOMES • Explores e• ective team problem solving and decision making • Enables individuals to learn how to become better contributors to a group • Compares individual decision making to group decision making • Helps participants test their ability to infl uence others FACILITATION TOOLS Included in your certifi cation is a facilitator guide, an online module and other facilitator resources you will need to run the simulation.
